Book WorkshopThe Psoas is the main muscle that joins the top half of your body to the legs.
It is the muscle that makes you walk and run and also the muscle that makes you kick, hence often being referred to as the fight or flight muscle.
In this workshop we will explore the psoas muscle which will help to understand how it affects the rest of the body when it becomes tense.
There will be an hour’s yoga practice, working with postures that release and relax the psoas. I have noticed over the years that certain yoga postures target and release the psoas causing the body to shake. This is a perfectly natural way to release tension and stuck trauma from the body.
Then there will be a TRE session where you will learn the TRE exercises, and how to start and stop the tremors. You will also learn some grounding techniques, what self regulation is and how to self regulate.
TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a unique and innovative approach to stress reduction and trauma healing developed by Dr. David Berceli, a trauma therapist and social worker.
TRE consists of a series of simple exercises designed to activate the body's natural tremor mechanism, facilitating the release of tension, stress, and trauma stored in the muscles and nervous system.
The primary goal of TRE is to initiate neurogenic tremors, which are involuntary shaking or trembling movements that originate from the body's core (the psoas) and radiate outward to release physical and emotional tension.
These tremors are a natural, self-regulating response of the nervous system and are similar to the shaking that occurs in animals after a stressful experience to discharge excess energy and restore balance.
The TRE process typically involves the following steps and in the workshop you will:
- 1. Learn the Exercises: you will be guided through a series of gentle exercises that target specific muscle groups, primarily focusing on the legs, hips, and psoas. These exercises are designed to fatigue the muscles and stimulate the body's natural tremor response.
- 2. Learn to Initiate Tremors: After completing the exercises, you will be shown how to start and stop the tremors. They may start subtly and gradually intensify, spreading throughout the body as tension is released.
- 3. Learn to Facilitate Release: As the tremors occur, you will be guided to surrender to the process and allow the body to release stored tension, stress, and trauma.
- 4. Learn about self regulation: and how to self regulate and rest when it is appropriate, so that you don’t become overwhelmed.
- 5. Learn about grounding: and how this affects the nervous system and helps you to regulate it.
- 6. Integration and Rest: After the tremors subside, you will be guided through relaxation techniques to help integrate the experience and promote a sense of calm and well-being. Rest and self-care are emphasized to support the body's natural healing process.
TRE is a self-empowering practice that, once learned, can be done independently. It is best learned with the guidance of a certified TRE provider. It is suitable for individuals of all ages and fitness levels and can be adapted to accommodate specific needs and preferences.
Overall, TRE offers a gentle and effective approach to releasing tension, reducing stress, and promoting healing on physical, emotional, and mental levels, making it a valuable tool for enhancing overall well-being and resilience.
So, are you ready to unlock a profound sense of calm, release tension, and reclaim your inner peace?
