Tantra is on the rise but what is it?

Tantra is a spiritual path that utilises various techniques, including physical and mental practices, to achieve liberation and enlightenment, often focusing on the transformation of energy and the exploration of the self and our human experience as a means to meet liberation.

In its history, tantra was feared and banned as the teachings were geared towards being in life and being human.

Core Concepts:

· Transformation of Energy:

Tantra emphasises the utilisation and transformation of fundamental cosmic energy, or Shakti, to awaken cosmic consciousness, or Shiva.

· Embodiment and Union:

Tantra, particularly in its Western interpretations, emphasizes awakening through embodiment and seeking union through relationship and intimacy.

· Desire as a Resource for Action:

Tantra recognises the powerful energy aroused by human desires as an indispensable resource for the spiritual path, suggesting that these energies can be channelled for transformation rather than just pleasure.

· Diverse Practices:

Tantra encompasses a wide range of practices, including rituals, meditations, and physical techniques like yoga and breathing exercises.

· Not Primarily About Sex:

While some Tantric practices involve sexual union, it's important to note that this is only a small part of the overall tradition, and the focus is on merging with the divine.
