Book Workshop

On Saturday 25th June 2022, we will hike from Glenridding up Helvellyn on one of the most scenic hikes the country has to offer. This charity community hike will raise vital bursary money for marginalised young people to access the benefits of The Visionaries’ work and be supported on their journey as social and environmental leaders.

The Visionaries’ Director Max Girardeau is a qualified Mountain Leader and mountaineer, and has a wealth of experience guiding groups of all ages in the mountains, alongside his own mountaineering and climbing adventures up mountains across the Globe.

Max & his team will guide a group of up to 50 people on a jaw dropping hike up Helvellyn on a challenging, yet satisfying route that will give you incredible views, tired leg muscles, connection with The Life Centre community, and make a pub dinner at the end all that more gratifying!

Alongside the mountain hike, you’ll get to learn about the incredible work The Visionaries are doing to transform the lives of marginalised young people. Bring your swimsuit as there might be time for a cold water swim in a mountain tarn.

What you get from us

  • Resources & advice to help you on fundraise and show the impact of the money you raise to donors
  • Qualified Mountain Leaders to guide you up the mountain and keep spirits high!
  • Knowledge and insight on mountain landscape, ecosystems and history
  • Pre-event support
  • Quality advice on what gear you will need
  • First Aid support on the day of the event
  • A Visionaries screen printed bandana as a memento of the day.

About The Visionaries

The Visionaries is a not-for-profit social enterprise offering transformative nature-based experiences and professional training to support young leaders and educators to lead society through regenerative transition. They guide powerful learning journeys for youth and adults to learn side-by-side how to live well, how to look after each other and the planet.

The Visionaries deliver week-long nature retreats in the Lake District for youth who would never normally get access to these developmental experiences, enabling youth at the threshold of adulthood to look after their mental health, discover their unique gifts, their passions, and put these to service to causes they care about.

The Visionaries’ also deliver Regenerative Educator Training, to support teachers, youth workers and alternative educators in key regenerative leadership skills - skills that restore the health of people and the ecosystems on which our lives depend. Educators take these regenerative practices into their youth settings to ensure future generations receive an education that addresses head-on the social and environmental justice challenges of our time.

Ticket Entry Requirements

Entry requirement: £35 (this covers the cost of your guided mountain hike)

Fundraising Pledge: £200 (sponsors bursaries for marginalised young people to access the benefits of time in nature)

To participate in our Helvellyn Community Fundraiser Hike, each participant must register for the event by paying the registration fee, and pledge to raise at least £200.

This money will widen access to The Visionaries’ programmes, giving a life-changing opportunity to inner city young people who have faced additional marginalisation and barriers to healthy development such as experiencing financial hardship, racism, lack of access to nature, mental health challenges, family issues or living in care. Giving them the chance to get away from the stress of everyday life and experience the great outdoors, perhaps for the first time, is so vital to their health, wellbeing and aspirations.

Overnight Accommodation

Why not make a weekend out of it and arrive on Friday night? We are inviting those who wish to extend the trip to stay with us at Gillside Campsite in Glenridding.

Contact Gillside Farm Ullswater (gillsidecaravanandcampingsite.co.uk)

You will need to book this independently, however we expect many from the group will join for an evening of getting to know one another around a fire. This also gives ourselves a more spacious morning to prepare for our community hike together! Book as early as possible as the campsite is guaranteed to sell out.
